Just one second behind the women was 7-year-old Nicholette Merle-Smith, daughter of Bull Run huntsman and joint master of foxhounds Grosvenor Merle-Smith. She placed second riding her black pony behind Michael Baudhuin on his big blonde draft gelding, Otis. Bull Run’s David Horne and Donna Koski placed third.
This was the first year Rappahannock held its hunter pace the day after, instead of the morning of, the point-to-point. This allowed time to run a hilltoppers’ non-jumping hunter pace in addition to the regular series of adult, junior and fast time paces. Nearly 50 pairs of horses and riders competed.
