and a man “who has never held office.” Let’s think about that line of attack. Earley is using “class warfare”, the kind of divisive, envy based practice for which the Republicans have rightly chastised Democrats for years.
You know, when Dick Gephardt or some other Demo doofus prattles on about “tax breaks for the rich” as if he really didn’t long to be in that tax bracket himself. Since Earley is pretty well heeled he foolishly comes off sounding like a 1930’s socialist. Look, if the G.O.P. thinks it is clever to attack success, and indeed Mark Warner has been successful, then what does the party stand for?
Warner was the first of his family to go to college, and he made his success by hard work and shoe leather. He should be a Republican poster boy rather than being derided for making it. And he has raised more money (not his own) for this campaign than both the Republican candidates put together.
Now, about the notion that “he lacks experience”. Remember that this comes from the same guys who have been arguing for term limits. You can’t have it both ways, fellas. And did this argument not apply when you won your first election?
According to this line of reasoning we should only support career politicians like the ones who just made a complete hash of the last General Assembly. With all due respect, Governor Gilmore and his prickly cronies couldn’t direct a two car funeral. I guess y’all can tell who I’m supporting this time.
