A petition is being circulated
in Amissville that asks signatories to oppose any lighting ordinance in Rappahannock County. This petition suggests that this ordinance was proposed by the Amissville Area Community Association. This is entirely false! Currently AACA has taken no position on the Intrusive Lighting Ordinance.
We, like everyone in the county, are interested to learn more about the ordinance being discussed by the County Planning Commission. We all need to know more about its goals and how it could work before we commit ourselves to positions.
As a community, we all have various concerns to be taken into account. Security and safety are as much a concern to all of us as the beauty of the night sky and the ability to show our children the stars. Any ordinance must take all these into account.
Its charter (which is at www.amissville.com) commits AACA to retaining the scenic and rural character of our area. It also provides a forum for community dialogue, inform and educate residents on issues of importance, and express positions on behalf of the members and community.
