Day was held at Rappahannock County

Elementary School on Friday, June 1. Captain Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office, who also serves as School Resource Officer for Rappahannock, organized the sixth annual event.

The threat of rain hovered over the activities all day and at times there was a little mist but for the most part it held off until around 4:30 that afternoon just as the last tents were being dismantled.

Over 55 exhibitors were on hand this year and a few didn’t show because of the weather, however, overall the event was extremely successful and the children were so excited.

Captain Brown works many hours beyond the call of duty to bring this event to our school children each year. He manages to get exhibitors to come from all over the state, as well as in nearby counties. He deserves a round of applause from this entire community, however earlier this week, he was first to say, “Yes, I organize the event, however, it would be impossible without the amount of incredible volunteers we have to help each year.”

Each year the event grows and the excitement mounds, children are talking about the event for weeks, hoping it doesn’t rain or one child was quoted as saying, “It’s next to Christmas.” This is the excitement that should be generated among children. And that’s what Captain Brown aims for each year — for the children to see the unusual exhibits, to learn about safety and drug awareness and to see the police, protective agents and other role models in a positive light.

Field Day under the direction of Ms. Carol Nowakoski, RCES RE. teacher is a big part of the day and always brings excitement to the students.

A round of thanks to the many exhibitors, the enormous number of volunteers who worked so hard to make this event memorable for our students, Ms. Nowakoski and especially to Captain Jeff Brown.
