River District Champions. It was a pitching duel to the finish. Coming into the game, each team’s ace had a perfect game in the season’s record books and several no hitters. The Lady Panthers faced the high strike zone for the first time all year.
The Stateman’s pitcher, Megan Hall showed us nothing but rise balls and they had the Rapp girls swinging. There was not a single base runner for either team until the bottom of the third inning. With one out, their number eight batter reached base on an infield error. Megan Hall then hit a single to right center, and now two Statesmen were on base. The lead off hitter then bunted, reaching first with an erratic throw by pitcher, Sharp. Now bases were loaded and only one out. Rapp Coach, Jon Smythe called a time out and pulled his team together for the strategy plan. The next batter hit into Sharp who executed a throw to catcher, Gwen Johnson for the force at home. The final out was another hit back to Sharp for the easy out at first. Rapp was out of the tight spot still 0-0.
In the top of the fourth inning with one out, center fielder, Ryisha Cook got the one and only hit of the game. With Sharp at the plate Cook stole second on the first pitch. Cook then stole second on the second pitch, then came home on a bad throw to third in the effort to get her out. That was the only score of the game as Rapp finished the Statesmen off 1-0.
