Hurricanes are bom and thrive in the ocean, but they can also have disastrous effects far inland. Heavy rains from weakening tropical systems have led to some of Virginia’s worst disasters.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management, in cooperation with the National Weather Service and local emergency management officials, offers tips and advice to protect lives and reduce damage before, during and after hurricanes.
