It’s almost summer, which means hackyards everywhere are filling up With the sparkling lights of fireflies.
Fireflies are the same thing as lightning bugs, it just depends upon where you live and what you were taught as to what you call them. They can be called either lightning bugs or fireflies.
As darkness begins to fall, our dieadows and yards are lit with a myriad of little lights that dip and flutter like tiny searchlights over the landscape. As a kid it was fascinating to watch them perform. We took a great delight in catching them and holding them in our hands as the bugs turned their lights on and off. , I am sure you can remember timing evening play to coincide with the time lightning bugs appeared because chasing them was such fun. We would chase them until we had caught quite a few, put them in a jar, and walk around in the twilight with our twinkling stars in glass containers.
