For the second time running the meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals was dominated by debate over a request for a zoning variance by the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company (AVFRC). For the second time running, the matter remains unresolved.
Two good causes are pitted against one another, and they cannot both prevail. Also, applying the law is turning out to be subtle and complicated.
To review: The AVFRC owns a small parcel of land, of about one and a half acres. If the land can be built upon, the AVFRC can sell it for a tidy sum. Money for their invaluable service to the county is hqrd to come by and sorely leeded.
