The Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Club is a group of individuals ranging from ages nine to 18. These youth each have projects, either beef,- swine, sheep, or goats. In April, Feeser Genetics of Maryland invited us to purchase our hog projects and tour their facilities. We raised some animals from the beginning of the year until a sale at the July Farm Fair in Culpeper where they are also shown and judged on conformation and quality.
The profit from the sale of these animals usually goes to college or to help support another project the following year.
This year there are eight of us raising projects. We all have at least one swine project and others also have beef and goat projects. We are all preparing diligently for the fair, bonding with pigs, steers, and goats to improve willingness to perform and respond to commands.
