In its second year, the “Rivers and Roots Festival,” sponsored by Sunnyside Farms and supported by a number of new patrons, is becoming a major annual event in Rappahannock County. This year’s festival was held at Sperryville's Sunnyside @ The School House on Saturday, June 25.
Organized by Janet Davis of Sunnyside Institute, Amy Silver of Headwaters, and Kathryn Treanor of the Rappahannock County High School Band Boosters, the event builds on ongoing efforts by many nonprofits in the county to support sustainable farms, environmental preservation, and “100 percent organically-grown, local music talent in our schools.” All proceeds from this successful event will go to' support Rappahannock school music programs.
In an interview after the Festival, co-organizer Amy Silver reported; “We were extremely happy with the great turnout, the fantastic exhibits, and the terrific music. Several of the nonprofit groups exhibiting reported that by the end of the day they had recruited a number of new volunteers. We're still counting the receipts, but we think the music programs benefiting from the festival will be pleased with the outcome."
