Workshops coming up
RNPC plans a series of seminars and workshops in the near future. Amy Silver is organizing the first, scheduled tentatively for early August, on using ebase®, a charitable donor management software package. The software not only helps keep track of donors and amounts, but also to tailor fundraising efforts so that groups ask the right people for the right sort of contribution, and don't waste effort with poorly thought out requests. Chisholm says in the offing are "grant writing and volunteer retention workshops, and board recruitment and retention" where she plans to have a couple of professional grant writers come in and speak. "We also plan a Fundraising 101 'Beyond the Bakesale' seminar. It will teach how to develop and approach a systematic funding plan. We will teach how to look for foundations and even corporations for assistance." Chisholm says.
Although, as they pointed out, they were not the architects of this particular effort, Woodard and Chisholm hold up Sunnyside Market's work with the Farm to Table program as exemplary of the sort of corporate cooperation they envision: "Sunnyside works with the Farm to Table program in theschools. Sunnyside gets good PR and feedback from the schools. The School gets a curriculum that supports agriculture" Woodard notes. All parties in the arrangement get something. They want to encourage looking for opportunities of that sort.

Resource centers like the RNPC are relatively few and far between in Virginia. Since they work as a catalyst, increasing the efficiency of charity dollars being spent already, there is a great potential for expanding their field over time: "We envision the center growing and reaching out to the neighboring counties.
