today through the sport ot polo. Having played with Prince Charles at the Tidworth Polo Club, Tareq enjoys friendly competition with the British. He promoted a charity polo match between the United States and England at Bleu Rock Inn’s inaugural match. Salahi reminisced, “I told a friend of mine named Calvert Clark... if you build this polo arena, I will bring you the English polo team that if patroned by the Prince of Wales, but you have ten days to build it.” The carpenters hammered the last nail into the arena as the British team walked towards the gate. Although the U.S. lost by one goal, the event raised about $60,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Polo, wine and
twilight
As the Society’s “Man of the Year” in 2002, Salahi enjoys supporting charitable foundations. “Polo, Wine, and Twilight Dine” continues the fundraising efforts of Oasis Winery. The evening polo matches on Fridays at Bleu Rock and on Saturdays at Great Meadow raise money for the “Charity for the Cure” which benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
There is a nominal admission fee of ten dollars per carload and several ways to enjoy the games that run from June through the second week of September.
There are wine packages available that spectators can request such as having Virginia wine and cheese waiting for you upon arrival.
