At age 17, Caitlin Hammelman is a senior at Wakefield Country Day School and a varsity soccer star. Bom May 17, 1988 in Warrenton, Hammelman grew up in New Baltimore, Virginia. She comes from a family of five sisters and two brothers, of which she is the second youngest. Hammelman has attended WCDS since she was in first grade. Her parents Linda and Jim Hammelman heard about the school from a neighbor and sent several of their children to WCDS. Hammelman says she loves the school because of its small size. She says that it gives students more individual time to learn and great opportunity to play sports, an opportunity Hammelman has certainly taken advantage of.
Hammelman is a tri-captain of the WCDS varsity soccer team, along with Jody Green and Allison Russo. With one exception, all of Caitlin’s siblings have played sports. One of these, her older sister Jordon also attended WCDS and was a soccer player that inspired Caitlin to play soccer. Hammelman said,
“I always wanted to do everything she was doing,” smiled Hammelman who started playing team soccer at about 10-years-old and then in seventh grade played varsity with Jordon until the older sister graduated.
Now, Hammelman plays on the varsity soccer team with her youngest sister, Taylor, who is a sophomore at WCDS. Hammelman’s favorite sport is definitely soccer but she has also been playing basketball for five years and volleyball for four
