his Boston home. A couple traveling with their dog struck a guard rail with their car, and had to be transported from the scene by ambulance. Their dog, Bullett, ran away from responders to the scene, and Hitt volunteered to take care of the frightened animal. Hitt, an animal lover, was worried that the lost and confused dog would run away looking for his owners. Hitt spent an entire day trying to coax the skittish Bullett to stay in the area, leaving out food and using his own dog to entice Bullett to hang around. Despite Hitt’s efforts, Bullett eventually vanished into the woods around Hitt’s home.
Later, recounting the incident to The Rappahannock News, Hitt recalled how worried this made him.
“I was so scared that he would run off. This isn’t his place, he didn’t know where he was.” However, after being released from the Hospital, Bullett’s owners returned to Hitt’s home to get their dog. “She [Bullett’s owner] just came out and yelled ‘Bullett’ and he just came running out of the woods, and I was so glad,” recalled Hitt.
