In a previous column we looked at “soft” window treatments. This month we will review “hard” window treatments such as shades, blinds and shutters. What seems like a fairly mundane and practical subject can get quite complex and exciting, as new and improved products come to market. Current knowledge of these products, as well as suggesting practical applications, is your designer’s job. On that note, let me mention that many homeowners are able to measure and install these products themselves, but as they become more customized and expensive, it is wise to have a professional you trust do those things. It can make the difference in the proper function and the well designed look you are seeking. An improper job of measuring and installation can result in a costly mistake.
