On Tuesday April 4, Rappahannock Volunteer Rescue personnel successfully fought and contained a 14-acre brush fire that started along Moon Road near Old Rag Mountain. The volunteers were directed in their efforts by Mike Sanitucci of the Virginia Department of Forestry. According to Sanitucci, the fire was set deliberately, although as a small fire and not necessarily intended as the sprawling brush fire it became. Still, the incident happened only a day after the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors instituted an outdoor burning ban due to Rappahannock’s extremely dry conditions, and the incident is still being investigated. It took Sanitucci and the volunteers about two and a half hours to stop the fire. According to Sanitucci, no buildings were affected, and no one was hurt.
Bus accident
A Rappahannock County School bus was involved in a single vehicle accident on Wednesday April 5. The driver was returning to school to pick up students at approximately 2:20 p.m. when the bus ran off the side of Aileen road, striking a tree.
