“That’s exactly what they needed,” Morris said of the Old Dominion result. “They all needed a prep, and this was the day.”
Morris added that, although running Kinross horses against each other still isn’t his favored plan, timber stakes options are limited; targets for any - or all — three might include My Lady’s Manor next week or the Middleburg Hunt Cup April 22. Either sets up well, Morris said, for the May 6 Gold Cup or the $75,000 Iroquois timber stake May 13 in Tennessee.
“I still hate to run them together,” Morris maintained. But sometimes, there’s no option.
In the day’s other racing, Kinross hurdle star Sur La Tete got in some practice, too: Read steered the son of Sky Classic to victory in the two-mile open hurdle, a “perfect prep,” Read said, for the April 21 $150,000 Royal Chase at Keeneland in Kentucky, a race in which he was second last year.
