This article explains how conservation can lower your Virginia income taxes return.
Already filed your 2005 tax return? You can lower next year’s taxes by 20-30 percent. RCCA can explain how.
Paying estimated taxes for 2006? It’s not too late to lower those taxes. We can talk you through the procedures.
Conservation easements already benefit everyone. Easements help keep Rappahannock open, rural, and scenic — the way we like it. A rural county also means fewer school children (cows don’t go to school), which keeps our taxes low. Yes, taxes are already high, but they would be higher if we were expanding the way Loudoun County is. And the state gives us a few extra dollars for the schools because easements makes us appear poorer and more deserving of state revenues.
Easements also benefit Virginia taxpayers who are unable to donate an easement, can donate but don’t want to, or even are opposed to easements altogether.
