“Silhouettes” when they have horizontal vanes, and “Luminettes” when they have vertical vanes. They each have the look of a sheer drapery, but operate like a blind. They can completely open and close, by being pulled up into a headrail or down along the window, and the vanes can be tilted, fully opened, or fully closed. The vanes are an opaque fabric that provide privacy and light control, and they are suspended by a sheer fabric that gives the feeling of a sheer drapery. One caution for those of us that live in the country, though, is that if the ladybugs invade your windows seasonally, this product might be difficult to clean.
Woven woods are the newest addition to the family of hard window treatments. “Matchstick” or “bamboo” shades conjure up memories of the shag carpet era. (Shags are back, too, but that’s for another article.) Woven woods are no longer brittle and often broken. Now the materials used and the new mechanisms make this a fresh new look that will give a clean, “woodsy” feel to your interior. They really work, and you would be impressed with the variety of styles these will provide.
