Cellular or honeycomb shades are also available in a great variety of colors, fabrics, and styles. The fabric for cellular shades can be chosen to let light filter through or completely block out light as desired. Many can be installed without that ugly cord to pull. Another neat feature is “top-down/bottom-up”. This means the shade can be adjusted so that the while the top of the window is exposed, the bottom is covered. This works very well if a window is above a bathtub, and one wants to view the treetops or sky outside while bathing in privacy.
Homemade Roman shade contraptions with their strings and rings led to the development of sleekly manufactured “Romans” giving the look of fine drapery with the easy function of a shade. The choices of fabrics are wrinkle free and thus adapt to the up and down positions readily.
