“I think the rescue guys did a great job getting him out. Some of his best friends did a great job saving his life,” said Winnie Hitt.
Hitt remains unconscious, under sedation and the cause of his accident is unknown.
“We haven’t been able to talk to him,” said Winnie.
According to his brother Winnie, Hitt suffered from health problems even before the: accident, and one of these or the medication Hitt took for them could have been a factor in the accident.
Doctors at Fairfax Inova are also trying to determine if Hitt, who is 51, could have had a heart attack while driving, which could also have contributed to the accident. These health problems may also complicate Hitt’s recovery, although his vital signs are currently stable. If he remains stable, Franklin Hitt will be moved to intensive care, which would only be a first stop on a long road back for Hitt, who among other things, will have to learn to walk without his lower leg.
“He’s facing a double battle,” said Winnie, “but he’s got an enormous amount of friends.”
