Kevin Riedel, 17, has been raising pigs in the 4-H program for about eight years. He lives just outside the Tbwn of Washington, raising seven hogs. Although he only entered three of his animals, he sold two of them and won third in the 265 market class and sixth in the lightweight class.
Riedel usually sells one other pig to his family and sells the rest to area residents. He also has them butchered and delivers them by the half or quarter depending on what the customer would like.
Amber Dodson, 10, from Sperryville raised two hogs but was only allowed to sell one because it was forty pounds under the weight regulation.
In spite of the situation, Dodson was not too discouraged.
“I have to sell it by myself now,” she said. “Hopefully someone around here will want to buy my pig.” She said that
