The program basically allows Dr. Mulugeta and the other hospitalists to fill in for a patient’s family doctor. If a patient regularly saw a doctor and that doctor was on vacation, another doctor or possibly a nurse practitioner in the practice would see the patient. The regular doctor would have a summary of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment available when the patient came in again. The hospitalist performs the same function just in a different building.
