Viewtown postmaster
Margaret H. “Ike” Barron, 88, of Fredericksburg, died on Friday, July 28, at Woodmont Center.
A native of Culpeper she was the daughter of the late James and Daisy Herndon.
As a child she was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church. After her marriage to Theodore C. Barron, she moved to Viewtown in Rappahannock County where she and her husband operated Barron’s Store for many years.
Mrs. Barron was also the Postmaster of Viewtown for 41 years. She was a former member and choir member of Forest Grove Baptist Church in Viewtown and Amissville United Methodist Church. After retiring in 1989, Mrs. Barron moved to Fredericksburg and became a member of Ferry Farm Baptist Church where she was a member of Golden Jubilee Senior Adult Choir, and the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class.
She is survived by a daughter, Camilla Latham and her husband Wendell of Fredericksburg, three grandchildren, Wendy Spradlin and her husband Mitch of Richmond, Christy Evans and her husband Ed of Lafayette, Indiana, and Steven Latham and his wife Lindsay of Salisbury, Maryland; seven great-grandchildren, Baily Latham, Shelby Latham, Sarah Spradlin, Rachel Spradlin, Abigail Evans, Peyton Latham, and Barron Latham; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 1, at Ferry Farm Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paige Young officiating. Interment was followed in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Jeffersonton, Virginia.
