Rappahannock County officials might have been green with envy if they had attended the Washington Town Council’s monthly meeting on May 9.

In contrast to the county’s recent contentious hearings about the public schools budget, the Town Council held a public hearing on its draft annual budget and no one from the public bothered to comment.

The town’s proposed budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year currently stands at $6.4 million — $4 million of which is from an interest-free loan for the town’s planned wastewater system.
