Family legend from Lois Snead has it that when Lafayette visited Alexandria, this applique quilt decorated the bed where he slept. Other quilts from Lois’ collection date from the mid 1800’s and were made by her pioneer ancestors on the Texas and Missouri frontiers. This talented family of needlewoman (and men - they worked quilts tool) has been creating incredible examples of American folk art for over 150 years. The skill and craftsmanship of these quilts is extraordinary. They have been lovingly preserved by Lois and will be cm display this coming weekend at the Rappahannock Quilt Club’s quilt show “Quilts and Lace - Old and New* held at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department Fire Hall an Saturday from 10 to 4 and Sunday from 12 to 5. A $5.00 donation is requested at the door to benefit the Washington Volunteer Fire Department’s Tanker Fund.
In addition to the fine examples of antique quilts, there will be several examples of quilts done by master quilter Katherine Riley, one of the founding members of 1die dub. Katharine, who quilts entirely by hand - both piecing and quilting, is a genteel lady well into her ninth decade. Several of the quilts in this show were produced
