National Council ofTeachers of English (NCTE) selects RCHS 8th Grader for National Recognition
The following includes excerpts of a report submitted by RCPS Gifted Education Teacher Lilo Wolfe. “Mairead McLoughlin was RCHS’ nominee to the NCTE Promising Young Writers Program. The NCTE selected Ms. McLoughlin as one of 224 recipients of a Certificate of Recognition from a total of 656 eighth grade applicants across the United States. Students were asked to present their best writing to the contest and to complete an impromptu essay during the session in school. The topic was ‘If you could go back to another time for one day, whom would you like to meet?* The certificates represent NCTE’s recognition of students’ writing talents and belief in the importance of writing.
