The popular Washington Saxophone Quartet returns to the Theatre at Washington on May 19 for an 8 p.m. concert featuring music of many countries and several centuries. The Quartet invites the audience to “Tour the World with ;Music”, as the Quartet itself has done throughout the last thirty years.
A Chinese folk time, chosen from the Quartet’s 1995 'tour of China because of its popular appeal, illustrates their eclectic choice of music. .'The Quartet notes that “in a 'country of 1.2 billion, [the tune] is widely known and Joved. In its original ‘Kang Ding’ is a love story sung by a woman and man to one another.” In this arrangement, “their full and response are evoked by the soprano and tenor Voices’ of the saxophones.”
