Question: Does the State get more in tax revenue from Rappahannock than it provides in funding for our schools and other State-mandated services?
Answer In 2004, Rappahannock residents owed $8,052,075 in State income tax (http://www.tax.virginia.gov/site ■cfm?ahas=AnnualReports).
In fiscal year 2004 (FY04), the State budgeted $2,673,730 in State funds for our schools. The FY and tax years are different, but this data strongly supports our argument that Rappahannock is getting the “short end of the stick” in State funding. These figures do not include state sales tax collected locally and State property recordation fees collected locally.
