A new, $4,500 water pump is sitting in Culpeper. It was ordered for the Town of Washington after an electrical short at the town’s pump house left residents with a dwindling water supply. But the pump that broke is now fixed, and the town council isn’t sure what to do with the new one.
Craig Jebson, president of the company that repaired the broken pump, said that the trouble started on the night of.Aug. 16, when lightning struck somewhere near the pump house on Harris Hollow Road outside the Town of Washington. The charge traveled down power lines leading into the well and caused the water pump to short circuit, he said.
