Community members are invited to attend the October Board Meeting of the Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA). RCCA holds its monthly Board of Directors’ meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 5:30 -7:00 at the RCCA office at the Schoolhouse in Sperryville (at the comer of Routes 522 & 211.) Enjoy live music, speakers, local food and wine, a solar-house tour and a bonfire while learning about the issues surrounding Dominion Virginia Power's proposal to string more 500,000-volt power Ines through Rappahannock County. Green vendors are welcome and tailgating is encouraged. The event will be held from 2 p.m. until dark at Jordan River Farm (6 Shiloh Lane at the comer of Jericho Road and North Poes Road in Huntty). At dusk, there will be a "Ughtwaik" under the Dominion power lines that cross the farm. Participants can bring their own 3-foot fluorescent light butt), which win illuminate from the stray energy emitted by the lines. Demand - Rain Barrels!
The Culpeper Soil & Water Conservation District will be hosting its 2nd "Build Your Own Rain Barrer workshop on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Young Farmers' Pavilion in Madison, VA. Lunch will be provided. Barrels will cost $35 for 1 or $60 for 2, including hardware. Barrels without hardware will cost $15. Barrels can also be purchased without attending the workshop. Annual Dried Flower Sale and House Tour on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 am. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tea will be served both days from 2 to 5 p.m. ait the Middleton Inn in Washington. This year’s featured homes include the Schiffman's Pink House, Meadow Green and Oak Crest. Tickets per house - $10.00.
