FLORAL GESTURES
OF SYMPATHY
While the gift of flowers is most often associated with happy occasions, it also has a place during times of grieving. As much as we like to receive flowers in celebration of love and to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries, and special achievements, flowers are very much appreciated by those who must confront death and loss. According to a survey conducted by the Society of America Florists, flowers rank behind only support from family and friends and sympathy cards as a source of comfort for bereaved people during the grieving process. On a very tangible level, flowers help raise spirits with their natural beauty. On a more subconscious level, they may be seen to represent the life cycle of all living things.
