The judge also dismissed Cloniger’s claims of conversion.
“The court has to decide based on your past actions and what you’ve done in this case,” Parker said.
Pierce, who has had three of Cloniger’s children, rushed out of the courtroom in tears when Parker announced the sentence.
Parker told Hoffman that she has 30 days to appeal his decision.
After the sentencing, Fletcher’s family members said they were satisfied with Cloniger’s punishment.
“He deserved what he got,” said Fletcher’s uncle Kelvin Carbaugh. “It’s bad that he killed him, but then he [urinated] in his face before he died and then talked about burning him.”
Carbaugh spoke calmly about the case and also expressed sympathy for Cloniger’s family.
“You know, there’s no winners,” he said. “Not only did he destroy part of us but he hurt his own family, too.”
