Look no further than youi television on Sunday afternoon. Last week, 14 of the 16 NFL games were won by the team who had more rushing yards. Furthermore, the team with more rushing yards has won 37 of 48 games through three weeks of the season.
Rappahannock County has given up more than 215 yards rushing in all three games, and are giving up an average of 248 rushing yards per contest.
It definitely has Coach Mike Williams attention.
“It’s a little concerning,” Coach Williams said. ‘You’ve got to be able to stop the run ii you’re going to win ball games.”
Williams main concern should be his offenses inability to run the ball. Fullback Tun Fitzmorris has been the F^nthere leading rusher in all three ball games. He’s rushed for a total of 101 yards on the season, and his season-high is 42 yards versus Luray.. All told, the Panthers have rushed for 224 yards in three games.
They’re giving up more yards per game than they’ve rushed for all season.
Success starts with the run game. Just look at the Panthers first three games of the season.
Rappahannock’s best performance of the year came against Luray. The main reason they almost shocked the Bulldogs was because of their run game, and ability to limit, the Bulldogs rushing attack in crucial situations. In that contest, the Panthers ran for 147 yards and gave themselves an opportunity win the game.
Since then, they’ve averaged less than 40 yards per contest, and they haven’t been a real threat to win.
The Panthers have seven games left to turn their season around, and Tm willing to bet that when they do get that first win - despite their struggles, I still think they wifi win two or three games this year - they’ll do so by running the ball effectively; and stopping the run.
