Though if the town council decides not to buy the new pump, either the Town of Washington or Country Water Systems will have to pay a $685 restocking fee.
Goebel doesn’t think the council should have to foot the bill.
“We contracted someone to fix it; we don’t know anything about it,” he said. “They misdiagnosed the problem, why should we pay the restocking fee?”
Jebson said typically the customer pays the restocking fee, but Country Water Systems will pay it tf the town refuses. But in that case, he said, the company will not make any more emergency purchases for the town.
“...[i]t was a decision made to benefit them,” he said. “And if they elect not to do it, I’ll know in the future not to make those decisions.”
Mayor Leggett said the town council will consider what to do about the new pump and restocking fee at its next meeting on October 10.
