“We want to raise people’s awareness of this power line and the issues involved with it,” Koral said. “One of the issues is, are they healthy? Part of the reason for the ‘lightwalk’ is to demonstrate that there is a lot of power emanating from the wires. We’re saying, look at this, draw your own conclusions.”
Harris said the festival is also a way to keep the powerline proposal in people’s minds until the SCC hearings on the issue begin in February in Richmond.
Festival organizers are planning to charge $5 per person for admission to cover the costs of the event.
If any money is left over, Koral said it will be donated to the Power-line Landowners Alliance.
Students in Rappahannock County Elementary School’s seventh-grade class, including Weingarten’s daughter, have already volunteered to help out at the festival. But more volunteers will be needed, so anyone interested should call 6364775.
