" Although much of his work is widely recognized as having clear roots in Polish national music, he was, in the words of the German poet Heinrich Heine, "neither Pole, Frenchman, nor German: he betrays a much higher origin ... from the land of Mozart, Raphael, Goethe; his true fatherland is the realm of poetry."
