“Of course, we knew the power line was there, but it’s hidden behind a row of trees,” Weingarten said. “If they raise the towers another 70 feet it will be visible. ... We never in our wildest dreams thought this would happen.”
Weingarten said one Realtor told him the property could lose as much as 30 percent its value if the corridor is expanded as Dominion is planning to do.
“After the hearings, I was so psyched that I got on television to say my piece,” Weingarten said. “Sometimes, you don’t feel like you have a voice, but there I was on two channels.”
The festival will feature; four different bands, several speakers and alternativeenergy presenters, food provided by Rae’s Place and Harmany Highlands, wine from Rappahannock Cellars and tours of Koral’s solarpowered house.
The public-address system will be powered by a biodiesel generator.
“My idea was a twopronged approach to this. To have people have a good time, eat local food and drink local wine. Also, to get people who are interested in the power-line thing to get information there,” Weingarten said. “We’re hoping for a fun afternoon, but also informative.”
