A good sign?
Staffers with the State Corporation Commission
last week requested a two-month extension in
reviewing Dominion Power’s proposed 500-kilovolt power line that, if constructed, would cut through a portion of Rappahannock County as well as the neighboring counties of Warren, Fauquier and Culpeper.
That together with the 23-page report issued by the Piedmont Environmental Council questioning the need for this additional line and that Dominion hasn’t looked closely enough at alternatives has apparently had a “delayed” reaction.
If the SCC hearing examiner approves this request - the decision will be made later this fall — it will push the next scheduled arguments to be held in Richmond to Feb. 25.
That will allow more time for anyone that would like to testify, to do so, on January 14.
At least requesting more time to study this hugely divisive proposition and one that will have such a devastating impact on this area suggests that those involved in the decision making consider it heavy enough that they need more time to bear its weight.
Perhaps, that’s a good sign.
