Wool Producers have voted three to one to continue deductions from Commodity Credit Corporation wool incentive payments to finance promotion of wool, according to the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. The producers voted in a referendum held August 21 through September 1.
Preliminary returns show 75.4 percent of the producers favored the advertising and other market development activities which would be continued under a proposed new agreement between the Secretary of Agriculture and the American Sheep Producers Council, Inc.
The proposed agreement authorizes continued deductions from payments made under the National Wool Act on wool and unshorn lambs marketed during 1978 through 1981. The new agreemenf authorizes deductions of up to 2'/2 cents a pound on shorn wool and 12‘/2 cents a hundredweight on unshorn lambs, up from l‘A cents and IVi cents respectively. The previous rates had been in effect for 12 years.
