To the editor:
I attended a meeting called by the Virginia Farm Bureau Marketing Association, at which apple growers discussed at length the controversial prices set by a large fruit processor in this area. Growers are alarmed inasmuch as these prices were set low, and this event takes place after two virtually disastrous low crop seasons.
At this meeting a West Virginia fruit grower suggested that a change in supplies of no more than 10 per cent, up or down, to a business complex such as the fruit processors, has a marked effect on prices offered. He said such a variation in available supplies can be achieved if sufficient cold storage facilities are available to the grower.
Whether or not processor prices can be significantly influenced in this way, still, more cold > storage facilities here in Rappahannock would serve our fruit industry in several useful ways.
