The Rappahannock Council of Senior Citizens will sponsor a forum on utility company rates on Monday, October 16, at the court house in Washington. Bernard L Henderson, Jr., assistant to the State Corporation Commission, will be the featured speaker. Henderson will explain how the SCC evaluates requests from utility companies for rate increases.
Members of the Senior Citizen Council voted unanimously at their September 19 meeting to support Virginia Attorney General Marshall Coleman’s efforts to limit Vepco rate increases below what has been requested by the utility company. In a letter to Coleman, Council president Truman Keesey stated that the Rappahannock senior citizens “applaud your efforts to protect our interests, as consumers, against the avaricious appetities of the utility companies.”
