“Many of the products you have mentioned are on a state bid contract,” Bloomer responded. Under these contracts, he said, all school divisions in the state pay the same price per item whether they purchase one or 15. “Most of my checking reveals we’re buying at comparable prices with surrounding jurisdictions even though we buy less,” Bloomer said.
“I’m not saying we can’t save some money by consolidating...but I doubt if many school systems would be interested in cooperative buying,” he added.
Masterson suggested that Bloomer investigate cooperative purchasing with nearby hospitals instead of schools. The Board unanimously directed Bloomer to look into the matter further.

Sentinel Alarm Systems Inc. of Castleton has begun marketing a new wireless device to protect horse barns from fire.
Known as the Protect-er, the device consists of miniature radio transmitters with heat sensors. When activated at 135 degrees Fahrenheit, the sensors transmit an emergency alarm to a master control and sound a loud outside siren.
Sentinel Alarm's regional manager is Eric Foster. He offers horse owners a “bam safety proposal" at no obligation.
