Early Work Session
The supervisors began their budget work session at 8 a.m. and by 11 a.m., they had managed to reduce proposed expenditures for 1982-83 by just $11,050. ‘‘The total effect of this morning's efforts has been to cut the tax rate by one-half cent,” noted accountant Wally Cox. (With new 100 percent fair market value assessments bringing county property values up to $200,000,000, one cent on the rate generates $21,000 in revenue.) “Right now, it's down to a trade-off—school expenses and tax rate," the accountant said.
In reviewing proposed appropriations for other county departments, the supervisors discovered an error in sheriff W. A. Buntin’s budget where $31,000 in expected reimbursement from the state for travel was listed as an expenditure.
But that $31,000 reduction was balanced in part by additions of (1) $860 for Rappahannock’s share of the operating expenses for circuit court judge Shore Robertson’s office in Fauquier, (2)
