Your Area Agency on Aging Winterization Program has helped over 400 low-income families in Orange. Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Fauquier Counties save money on heating bills since the agency began administering the program in 1979. Through the program eligible households can get storm windows, attic insulation. weatherstripping, and caulking installed at no cost, as well as other measures designed to keep the house warm and save energy.
The purpose of the program is two-fold: Winterization promotes energy conservation. Americans have worked together to dramatically reduce our nation's fuel consumption by turning back thermostats, driving at 55 m.p.h., insulating our homes, and using renewable energy sources like solar or wood heat. Thanks to energy conservation we are seeing a decrease in the country’s annual energy consumption for the first time in history. This inevitably leads to less dependence on foreign oil and lower prices for our energy. We all benefit from energy conservation. The winterization program also helps low-income families save money on heating costs and stay warm. The vast majority of our clients are elderly or handicapped and need what little money they have for food, medicine, doctors' bills and other necessary expenses.
