Good Times

"The people down in the valley - we had lots of fun even then. We had tournaments. In case you don't know, this was the same as jousting, and this section was known for good horses and good riders. They would put up poles a certain distance apart and put up crossbars with a wire and a hook hanging down. The man would ride and stick his lance through that and he’d get ten on his lance (if he could).

The man who got the most became the knight of the court and he could choose the queen of the court. He chose the girl he thought the most of. The man next to him chose a princess, too, and so on down, but the one chosen by the man who speared the most hooks got to wear a crown and there was a big dance that night.
