"They (the mills) went by the name of the person who ran the mill. The mill that I went to was called Sheep Estes' mill. And I would take the corn bv there in the morning and he'd grind it and I'd pick it up in the afternoon. No one had any money and the miller would take ('lit a gallon of meal or cracked corn or hominy to pay for the grinding.
"The old gentleman (Sheep Estes) didn’t have but one arm but he could divide the meal just so perfectly and put it on the back of my saddle. And there wouldn't be a teaspoonful difference - I think. It would never fall off a saddle. And I could ride home just as fast as 1 wanted to or as slow as 1 wanted to and it would never fall off."
