State voters, the congressman said, “are concerned about jobs and opportunity, and about the future for themselves and for their families. That should be the focus of this campaign, and the sooner the better.”

A number of Democrats are now expected to vie for the party’s nomination during the June 4-5 convention. Among those being mentioned are state Senate Majority Leader Hunter B. Andrews (D-Hampton), state Sen. Edward M. Holland (DArlington), Lieutenant Governor Davis, and Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert F. Horan Jr.

Mr. Ridley said Del. Pickett plans to attend the state convention and to work toward nominating a solid candidate. Del. Pickett "wants to see the party unified,” Mr. Ridley added.

Correction
