Richie Burke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Burke ot Huntly, has won the Rappahannock Lions Club $500 International Youth Exchange scholarship for 1982.
Burke, a 17-year old RCHS senior, will leave July 8. with a group of outstanding young people from all over Virginia to fly to Paris, and then travel on to spend five weeks as guest of a Lions Club family somewhere in Europe. The home country of Richie's host family has not yei been announced. On his return from Europe, young Burke plans to enter Randolph Macon college in Ashland. Va., to begin a pre-law curriculum, with emphasis on political * science. After w inning his law degree, (possibly from U.Va., or Georgetown), he hopes to enter politics. His favorite high school subjects have been government and history.
Richie plays right field and pitches for the RCHS varsity baseball team. His .386 batting average is the 9th best in the entire Skyline District. Richie is a member of the Varsity Club, and has been active in the Student Cooperative Assn. (SC A). Rappahannock News readers know him as the co-editor of "Panther Tales". He devotes his summers to coaching baseball for the Rappahannock Athletic Assn. He was assistant coach for the 14-15 year old All Star team for The Skyline District tournament last year. He also enjoys tennis, golf and photography as hobbies.
