Asked by school board member Robert Eastham for a reading of applicable law, commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner advised the supervisors that they must act to fill the seat prior to the date Lane’s term expires.
"So we couldn’t do it at the July meeting,” Wood noted. He added that the supervisors will announce at their June 7 meeting when they will act on the school board appointment.
(The supervisors have a special meeting for adoption of the 1982-83 budget set for June 14. No other meetings are scheduled prior to the June 30 deadline for filling the vacancy.)
